Adolescence can be a stormy time. For parents it can be both confusing and frustrating to know how to be. How much freedom do we give? How do we set limits and supervise our teen while letting them be themselves?
With teens the balance of safety and risk is complex. Our teen years are a time for taking on challenges and owning consequences, it makes sense to me why teens sometimes suffer. For this reason, tolerating distress and seeking safe and satisfying relationships is a focus of treatment. I especially like to focus on strengths.
